Byju’s has reportedly closed its Technopark office in Thiruvananthapuram and forced all its employees there to resign.

The Kerala general education and labor minister V Sivankutty has ordered an investigation into the matter.

In a LinkedIn post, a group of IT professionals at Technopark alleged that Byju’s is planning to stop its operations from Thiruvananthapuram without any prior notice to employees. The employees sought compensatory benefits, including payment of October month salary, three months advance salary, full settlement of variable pay, and encashment of earned leaves.

The edtech major said that 140 people were let go from its Technopark office as part of the ongoing organizational restructuring. The company added that it offered the entire Thiruvananthapuram team to relocate to Bengaluru.

While refuting the allegations, Byju’s said that it offered a generous and progressive exit package to all impacted employees, including extended health insurance benefits, outplacement services, and garden leave. It also assured employees to rehire them within the next 12 months at any operational center across India.

Earlier this month, the company shared plans to rationalize about 5 percent of its 50,000-strong workforce across departments in a phased manner.
